About Atex/Ex basic course for designers

Course content

Hydrogen, ammonia, biogas (methane) and other flammable gases and liquids place high demands on safety. This course provides the necessary competence to meet both today's and tomorrow's requirements for design and installation in hazardous areas.

The course is suitable for anyone who works with the design, installation or operation of Ex installations – both electrical personnel and other professional groups. It is also relevant for those who come into contact with Ex installations through mechanical work or HSE tasks. The ATEX regulations apply to both electrical and non-electrical equipment, and understanding across disciplines is crucial.

Through the course, you will gain a solid and comprehensive understanding of the ATEX/Ex regulations – a key competence for anyone who designs, installs or operates facilities in potentially explosive atmospheres.

What you will learn on the course

  • Review of the EU's ATEX directive and requirements for electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Theoretical design for both onshore and offshore projects
  • Preparation for any future IECEx COPC certification

The course provides the company with a thorough introduction to the regulations for design in hazardous areas, with particular emphasis on NEK 420A and EX-KOMP:2021. You will learn how to choose the right equipment, design safe installations and avoid common pitfalls. With a focus on industry standards and practical examples, you get the tools required to meet the demands of the energy sector – and a solid foundation for further certification if needed.

Course completion and duration

This course is conducted as a two-day course as standard, but can also be carried out as a one-day course, depending on the participant group and subject discipline.

The course is divided up so that the first day provides an Ex-training adapted to all disciplines, while day two goes more in-depth on electrical requirements and issues. For electrical personnel, it is necessary to participate on both days to cover relevant competence requirements.

Other professional groups do not have similar competence requirements and can participate on one day, but are also welcome to participate on day two if the company so wishes.

The course is conducted physically at your chosen location, for example in your own meeting rooms.
