Nominate Biomedical Laboratory Engineer of the Year 2026
For the seventh year in a row, NITO Institute of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, NITO BFI, has named the Biomedical Laboratory Technician of the Year.
"By highlighting individuals, we hope to build up good role models for young biomedical laboratory scientists, as well as establish role models who can showcase our great profession," says Kaja Marienborg, chair of the professional board of NITO BFI.

NITO Department of Biomedical Laboratory Sciences will award the Biomedical Laboratory Technician of the Year 2026. Yes, I want to nominate a candidate for Biomedical Laboratory Technician of the Year 2026
The Bioengineer of the Year 2025 was Sivashankar Sanmugam, who after more than three decades at the Department of Medical Biochemistry at Ullevål Hospital was described as the very glue in the on-call team. The nominations emphasized how he has built strong relationships with other professions at the hospital over many years and shown a commitment that lifts both colleagues and graduates.
Looking for good ambassadors
Many biomedical laboratory technicians are the link between health technology and diagnostics, or contribute to other important social missions. Biomedical laboratory technicians work at the intersection of health and technology by developing and improving medical devices and diagnostic tools, or they combine knowledge from biology and chemistry with engineering to find innovative solutions to medical challenges.
This work contributes to better patient treatment and more accurate diagnostic methods.
- Through this annual award, we want to highlight our best ambassadors. Being nominated for Biomedical Laboratory Scientist of the Year is a great honour, and the winner will also receive a cash prize," says Marienborg.
